I get asked all the time about the Klaus Nomi painting that I have in Destructo HQ. It was a birthday gift from a very special gal I know by the name of RazorCandi. Tampa Bay native Kym a.k.a Razorcandi, has been an inspiration to many and to myself as well. Her style is incredibly versatile, and can go from an elegant Annie Lennox esque pose to an alieneque diva to a death rock mohawk in less than 24 hours. Following her heart, she moved a few years ago to Romania (wow!) and since then she’s become an international alternative model featured in magazine such as Bizzare and Gothic Magazine and she’s also quite the artist as well. I recently got to ask her a few questions…

1. I always get asked if I do drugs or have any tattoos. What are some common misconceptions of you?

Actually I get the drugs one a lot too haha. A few others are that I have an eating disorder, that I’ve had a boob job and my favorite one, that I have had my ribs removed to be thinner.

2. What’s a normal day like in the life of Razorcandi?

I get up in early noon, drink my coffee with a nice fat breakfast, check my email(s) and spend the remainder of the afternoon painting or working on art projects until my husband comes home from work around 3ish, eat a nice fat lunch then head out into town for coffee and a walk for exercise. Back home around evening for a nice fat dinner, shower, and then a movie. Over the weekends it’s the same routine except we may shoot if we feel up to it.

3. If you have to give us your fans a piece of advice what would it be?

My advice would be to always stay true to your choices and feelings. There are lots of people out there who will talk down about things or belittle your judgments to gain your attention or to prevent you from going places. Always strive to be an individual and avoid belonging to a group or being part of a scene; this will only hinder your ability to think for yourself or to make your goals and dreams come true.

4. What’s your favorite beauty tips?

To be honest, I don’t follow any beauty regimen, my best tip is birth control! Makes your tits grow a cup size and gives you flawless skin ;)

5. Tell me a little a bit about why you decided to make a book?

I’ve decided to make a book because I wanted to have something for my fans that is more tangible. It is a way for me to reach out and be more personal and thanks to my fans my work will live on to inspire and touch people. There’s also a practical side to it as the book gives the owner several pictures in one rather than purchasing separate prints.

Beyond that, in the times that I have met her she’s a wonderful woman, not only drop dead in her looks, but her kindness and intellegence as well.  Not to mention her killer sense of humor. RazorCandi does all of her own hair, makeup and styling for the most part! She’s got flawless, unique style that I have seen many imitators but few if none able to capture. There’s even a video tutorial one of her fans made to do makeup just like her!

Razorcandi Book

Recently RazorCandi has launched a very limited edition book showcasing her ever changing looks, it’s now on sale and she’s also autographing every copy! Great gift for makeup artists, fashion designers and anyone who needs a new muse!

I just wanted to say I’ve actually just received her book in the mail. The quality is amazing, the photographs are very well chosen also. It’s a very impressive book to say the least. Highly recommended. Well done, Razorcandi :)

Hey,

Loved the interview, great job!

I just wanted to say I ordered one of RazorCandi's books and it's an absolute must-have for anyone who admires her work. The quality is great, the chosen pictures are an awesome balance of old and new work and the quotes sprinkled throughout really give it an extra dimension. I've always found RazorCandi to be ultimately inspirational and this book embodies that perfectly. Can't wait for volume 2, haha :)

LOVE!

Volume One is a work of art, much like RazorCandi herself. Of course, as this well-written interview states, Kym is much more than just a pretty face and nice-looking body. She's an intelligent woman that isn't afraid to be who she wants to be. The book is glossy and durable, its photographs brilliantly capturing her magnificent poses, elaborate makeup, darkly individualistic clothes, and talented poses. Inspirational and thoughtful quotes supplement the fine visuals. Volume One is a must-have purchase for die-hard and newbie fans alike.

I have been following Razor Candy for… I cannot count how long on Livejournal, she was always really cool but I could never pic what prints I wanted. So when this came along I had to grab at the chance and I am so glad that I did.

Vol 1 was actually much better than what I was expecting. I know she said it was glossy but I didn't think that the book itself would be as sturdy and as well put together as it was, the print quality is excellent and I loved the range, the quotes are a great addition, a perfect personal touch.

Can't wait for vol 2 ;)

Great interview! It's very interesting – especially the question about the daily routine ;-)
And I can confirm: the books are worth to buy! And it is right – Kym is a very nice person! It is always refreshing to write with her ;-)
