The Miss Destructo Press Kit

One of the most important things you can do as a creative or freelancer is to CREATE your identity and MAKE a press kit.  When I became unemployed many months ago this is one of the first things I did.. Now, it isn’t a golden ticket to a job. I am currently still unemployed, but my press kit has allowed me to gain a few amazing supplemental freelancing gigs and helped me create more of a solid brand for myself.  The color scheme for example, I use on my website and social media accounts… make all of these things scream YOU!

Oh, you can keep the fangs honey. I want that dress….

Last night, Mr. D and I we’re graciously invited by local theme park Busch Gardens to attend their “bleedup” at their annual halloween event Howl-O-Scream. This horror themed twitter and social media meetup last night, went way beyond my expectations. Not only did they roll out the blood red carpet for us, with giving us all VIP passes and many other special goodies.  But they really stepped it up a notch at the “Club EnVy” nightclub themed area for “bleedup” attendees featuring a very special appearance by the real @Msvayne and her vamplicious crew.  They must be vampires since I didn’t see a drop of sweat on them in the humid fog that rolled over all of us.

To most people nowadays Social Media is as commonplace as a cup of coffee or reading the newspaper in the morning. With sites like Myspace, Facebook and Twitter the world is being connected like never before. It’s amazing to me to meet someone finally in person after talking with them through pixels sometimes it’s like you’ve known them your whole life. I would have to say 80 percent of my closest “real life” friends I have met on a social media platform, including my beau Daniel. But that’s a long warm and fuzzy story for another blog post.

I realized something powerful sitting in the closet last Thursday, okay crazy lady what were you doing pondering life IN the closet? Well, as far as I know it was the hand of God reaching down to give me a good shake as the sky grew dark and the dog started act crazier than Richard Simmons in a Burger King. A few minutes later, a huge gust of wind (75 MPH) that lasted for about 10 minutes swept past leaving us all without power and being from Florida, I knew this could possibly be fun funnel cloud action. I grabbed the pooch and hit the closet, then I realized the power of nature not only of nature itself but the time we have in it, are we really in control of what happens or just what we do with the time in those moments? It’s quite amazing how much things can change in just a few minutes.

Yams at Big Lots! SCORE!

What are Yams?
It’s amazing how one little thing such as a yam holds a powerhouse of nutrition.
